Blue pottery as the name suggests is an art form famous for its vibrant blue color used in the creation of various objects of art. This art form has travelled to India from central Asia and has been patronized by the Maharaja’s of Rajasthan. Hence the name Jaipur Blue pottery.
This kind of pottery uses a mixture of crushed quartz stone, minerals powdered glass, Multani Mitti (Fuller’s Earth), borax, gum and water. Unlike other forms of pottery or ceramics Jaipur Blue pottery does not use clay. The unique designs and floral motifs are all hand painted and then glazed and fired at high temperatures to give these objects a gentle gloss.
